|

Okay, most know that I am a noob to Gentoo and linux. Anyways, my history.
--I started with mandrake a month or so ago, and I felt that it was too easy and windows like. So I heard about Gentoo and people said it was the best way to learn. SO, I have tried installing twice now. THe second time was totally successfull, and then I touched it, and I screwed it up (plus I didn't get my main user account right, and decided to kill everything).
So, I heard that "Modules" are some of the best ways to go about devices in Linux. I know how to compile them into the kernal, and I know how to make them load up on start up. I just want to know the following:
1) When I compile my kernal and they are made, how do I know what modules were made?? IS there some list that I can look at so that I know what to load up?
2) I have a 3Com card and it uses a certain module (can't remember name). Anyways, when I boot up Gentoo, it says that it couldn't load the module, but my NIC still works perfectly...any ideas???
I would also like to thank everyone for helping me. I have a friend that said that I'm wasting my time with this and that the first time I asked a question here I would be flamed silly....boy you guys proved him wrong

There is a modules directory in /lib/modules/[kernel-version]. Use "ls -R" or "find -type f" across that for a list.

The driver is probably compiled into the kernel. In this case, there is no module, and so trying to load it will understandably fail. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
