I just finished setting up my Gentoo on two NTFS files. I believe this may be of interest for people who use a Windoze machine where they are not allowed to install stuff, but they can leave files. In my case, I have just two 8GB files on my HD, and a USB key where I have the boot stuff. When I get home, I plug in the USB key and boot Gentoo.
I was tempted to write a guide, but wanted to check if there is some interested audience... |

Please do! This is great for testing purposes, people compelled to use Windows at work, a quick round of debugging when away from home - in essence, there's absolutely no doubt about its usefulness, and it's exactly what our Documentation, Tips & Tricks section has been created for. |

I don't see a reason why you shouldn't write a guide if you have the inclination and some free time, I would certainly be interested to see how you did this. It looks quite interesting. _________________ My Gentoo Linux Stuff | Get FireFox |

Would be very interested to hear how you did this.
So effectively you create a file which will act as a partition? (ie / or /boot)
and this gets around the limitations of the NTFS driver only being able to do modifications of fixed sized files?
Are you able to grow or shrink these?
Not really about to try any time soon, but interested all the same (although if I get a USB key......)
In any case please write a guide .... |

I am not sure of the usefulness of this. It seems interesting however so I would definitely do a How-to on it. |
