There is xcin, I know. I can't get it to work, it complains about xcinrc and I cannot find a man page, thus I cannot RTFM. The documentation is in traditional Chinese, I can't read it.

Also, I suspect it is not a Unicode based input system. Can someone confirm whether or not scin is Unicode?

Lastly, how do I integrate it with other applications? The tldp.org Chinese HOWTO suggests xa, it is notin the portage tree, nor do they say what it's website is.

getting xchin to work is quite easy, there should also be some english howto's for non native chinese speakers as me ;) (no i don't understand anything from the chinese version of the howto ;)

an example would be following .xinitrc (to start xcin with kde)
Code:

export LANG="zh_CN"
/usr/bin/xcin &
export XMODIFIERS="@im=xcin-zh_CN"
/usr/kde/3.1/bin/startkde

The XMODIFIERS tells XIM enabled programms to use xcin as input.

As regarding to unicode - i think this depends on your lang settings. The default for zh_CN should be gb. The easiest thing would be to look for a convertor from gb to unicode (many of those exist, same as for gb to BIG5 (the traditional system))

As for reading the traditional version, there are some web-based converters there that convert BIG5 -> gb code, so that you can read it with simplified characters. Just ask google for it :)

xcin: error: /etc/xcinrc:
IM section "array30": SETKEY: value not specified.

Still dying...

Should I use gentoo's xcinrc or the xcinrc in the tarball?
