| I've started building an MP3 jukebox (based on gentoo, of course) that I'm going to use in conjunction with my stereo. Nothing quite as pleasant as having a constant quiet stream of music running through the 'ol apartment... I'm even considering being a total geek and getting a little touchscreen monitor from http://www.earthlcd.com/ to connect to it... maybe run a little 640x480 fluxbox w/ some sort of cd selection front end... oooh, space age... anyhoo, I've already dumped most of my CDs to MP3 (taking up ~35gb of drive space) but I haven't found a great command line MP3 player yet. A couple people suggested mpg123 (and 321) but those seem to skip a lot if much else is going on. I just want something that can play completely random and recurse subdirectories all on repeat (like winamp's shuffle+repeat+play directory setup...). If it has a command line background option that's a plus, otherwise I'll just run it with & and logout. Suggestions? |

There's a review of various linux mp3 players here. Otherwise, you can always try searching Google or searching Freshmeat
Personally, I like Ampache which is a little different than what you're looking for, but works well for me.
