I have a toshiba 5005-s507 with firewire and a Dell Dimension 8100 with a firwire card. I downloaded the eth1394 driver from http://www.s.netic.de/gfiala/IP_over_1394.html to see if I could get a firewire network setup....The only problem I have(AFAIK) is that the driver assumes that someone is using /etc/sysconfig and ifup/ifdown commands-this is important because the programmer linked the driver and its MAC number to instances where the bus is brought up/down-for some reason which I don't understand /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start/stop doesn't do the job. Everythig seems to be working but....my firewire MAC is 00:00:000:00.:00 on both machines-which means that I can't use enscapsulated tcp-ip.......ie. normal for ethernet network.....I am going to write the programmer an email asking for help, but I thought I would check here first if someone has gotten a firewire network running....if it would work distcc, NFS, sftp, X, and other such things would be blindingly fast(400mbps instead of 10/10mps)..........

any help would be appreciated......
