Quote: | MODERATOR COMMENT: Please report any successful installs of masked packages to https://bugs.gentoo.org. For a brief tutorial on submitting a useful "keyword" bug to bugzilla, take a look at HOWTO Submit A Bug to bugs.gentoo.org. If you want to post here as well, that's fine, but you will only help further Gentoo on AMD64 if you also post on https://bugs.gentoo.org. |
So when I take the trouble to report a masked package that works completely stable, here, I was under the impression I would get a better response???
The maintainer of the Gentoo amule ebuild should know which version of amule is considered stable on Linux, and that *isn't* 1.2.8. What's the use of using an old version of an ed2k client which doesn't support secure ident????
Why is amule called a Release Candidate? Because Mac support isn't finished. That's all. See http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=3834&sid=
Well I won't bother reporting in the future. |

maybe you should mention your issues with 1.2.8 in the bug report, they sound like the excuse the developer is looking for to me. |

Sorry for the confusion, it's really our fault.
The thing is that it was decided long ago by the aMule devs of that time* that the next release of aMule should be called 2.0 and should support a number of things including Mac support. Problem is that this was quite a bit too optimistic (hence the seven and future RCs) though I believe that most of the original goals have been met, with the exception of windows support which has been pretty much dropped until core/gui separation is completed.
Essentially the only reason why it's still being called RC is that support for Mac hasn't been completed yet. Little-endian platforms should work just fine, however it was decided by vote that the 2.0 release wont be made officially until Mac support is working properly.
I wont recommend that anyone use the 1.2.x branch any more, as the amount of bug-fixes and improvements made since the last real 1.2.x release is staggering. Also because bug-reports against 1.2.x are pretty much useless to us.
* Don't blame me, it was before I became part of the dev-team. :p |
