TV performance problems with zapping

Hi!

One of the first things i wanted to get running on my new gentoo was being able to watch tv. I managed to get alsa and bttv running (i own a hauppauge tv card with brooktree 878). Zapping is the tv viewer of my choice.

So far everything is running, but the performance is rather ugly. Every few seconds the video stops (sound keeps running) and zapping seems to hang for some time. Even when its running its more causing headaches than tv pleasure.

I have been running Zapping successfully under Mandrake on the same machine. Any hints how i can get to an acceptable performance?
