I got a call from my parents yesterday wanting to know what I wanted for Christmas, and I hadn't given it any thought. So here I am, writing out my list, when I realized this might make a semi-interesting thread.

What do you want for Christmas/Haunkah*/Kwanza/other holiday I forgot?

*-I know that's spelled wrong, and I'm not even going to bother to try to fix it. Why? Because you know what I'm trying to point out and I'm lazy.

Cold hard cash.

That way, I can spend it wisely on computer components at sites such as http://www.newegg.com or http://www.mwave.com. Because if they get me an actual product, they'd probably get it from Best Buy resulting in:
  1. Lower money efficiency: If they have a set amount of money in mind, why not get the best bang for the buck?
  2. Worrying about returning an inferior product. Most obvious example would be a modem vs Winmodem.

My geeky wishes:

Unreal Tournament 2003
New keyboard (USB)

I generally don't wish for much computer stuff, because my family can't for their life buy the right stuff. And this year there are a lot of "I'm about to move in with the gf" wishes on the list

Let's see--

A job.

If I can't get that, I don't know. I'm pretty well set as far as geeky computer stuff in the gift price range. Of course if I wanted to go really crazy, I'd say dual flat panels with a good video card to run them on. :D

Lacking that, I'll take a new sacrificial dagger. Maybe appeasing The Gods will help...

1) Job
2) $$$
3) Power
4) Less Bullsh*t

My contract runs out Jan 10. So far, no good prospects.

I figure 2 & 3 would save me the trouble of needing a job and #4 is just a general wish.

However, I think none of the above will happen for a bit, so I'll be sending out a list of DVDs and CDs that I would like to have.

I only want a couple things.
1) $BLING$ $BLING$ - to pay off my debts.
2) 256 MB more Ram. (Only have 256 now)
3) a Good tv tuner card. Any suggestions? I'm assuming the WinTV Are the best for Linux Support.

mmm... I've been drooling over some different things lately.

a) cambridge amp + speakers... I really need a new stereo set.
(I've looked at a NAD as well, they are about the same pricerange with their cheaper amps)

b) digital camera... mmmmmmm

c) more hardware.. ie, mainboard+cpu would be nice (with a cooler) especially since I had to get a used tbird 1100 + mobo two days ago due to a mainboard core-dump.... *grrr*

d) DVD player could be nice, not sure if I'd ever use it though...

e) http://www.despair.com/year20cal.html

f) Muuusic!
(i've got my eyes on initiating a Porcupine Tree collection.... starting from zero ;)

Well, I could write out my real wish list, but I would never get those... So, I asked for lighting in my room (only have one small light in a 15m2 room) and since I always have the curtains closed (who needs the sun when you have a computer? :P) I tought a ceiling light would be cool.. :P

I want a network card for my TiVo. A dremel also tops my list. I also need pants. I've been told I need a new chair.

Well, a new chair is always good, but I wouldn't ask it for christmas but rather buy myself a real good chair that completely fits your body etc...

A geek can't be too cautious with RSI nowadays...

Am I a softie when I say that I just want to have a nice time with my gf? :D
I generally don't like people buying stuff for me, because I allways think they choose the wrong things, even if I tell them which product they need exactly, and they get that for me :D I'd like to get my driving license for christmas and maybe a car. First is very likely, second is a little less ;-)

AND I WANT A WHITE CHRISTMAS !!!

That has to be the most compact flamewar starter I have ever seen, but I can't say I disagree on many of those points - nice wishful thinking.. the world need idealists to make it interesting.
