Hi, I have a G3 600 MHz 12.1" iBook which I've just put Gentoo on. It has the ATI Rage 128 8MB video. I am trying to get xorg working properly. My current situation is I only have about 1/5 of a vertical section of the screen working and the top part of that section kinda overlaps on the bottom, it's weird. I have the r128 (under character devices) compiled as a module and it seems to be working because glxgears works at around 500 FPS. I have Option "UseFBDev" enabled(enabling this actually got X to start without errors) and I can enable Option "ForcePCIMode" but it makes no difference whether that is on or off. I can also switch between driver "ati" and "r128" with no difference. Right now I haven't yet tried compiling agpgart as a module, I'm thinking that might help. I did copy some Mode Lines from another iBook user and set the resolution to 1024x768. I can comment out the mode lines and nothing changes. What else should I try?

EDIT: Links to xorg.conf and kernel config

your config didn't work for me either, this is mine (g3 ibook, 600mhz, rage 128):

I went through mine and compared it to yours, I figured out what i was missing:
Code:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "Monitor0"
        VendorName   "Monitor Vendor"
        ModelName    "Monitor Model"
        UseModes     "Modes0"
        HorizSync     30-70
        VertRefresh   50-160

I didn't have the lines, UseModes, HorizSync, or VertRefresh!!
Incidently, when using your config, with glxgears I only had 60 FPS with glxgears, using my modified config I have 500+ FPS with glxgears. I updated mine if you want to give it a try.
