I just got my hands on an ipod and have been trying to get it to work with my linux box. I can mount my ipod and everything, but it takes a little work to do so. Before I can get the ipod to be detected, I have to run:
| Code: | | # /etc/hotplug/usb.rc start |
After this script is run I see this in dmesg:
| Code: | ohci_hcd: 2004 Feb 02 USB 1.1 'Open' Host Controller (OHCI) Driver (PCI)
ohci_hcd: block sizes: ed 64 td 64
USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver v2.2
PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 0000:00:07.2
PCI: Sharing IRQ 9 with 0000:00:10.0
uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB
uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: irq 9, io base 00001080
uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
hub 1-0:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-0:1.0: 2 ports detected |
Only now will the ipod actually get detected. Now I suppose I could run /etc/hotplug/usb.rc from local.start but I'm hoping for a more graceful solution. It seems to me that the hotplug script should be run automatically at boot. I do have the hotplug service running at the boot runlevel, but the /etc/init.d/hotplug script doesn't actually do anything; it just verifies that the kernel supports hotplug (which mine does).
Can anyone help? |

| Just in case someone is as stupid as I am, I'll post the solution. It turns out all I needed to do was have the uhci-hcd module autoloaded. |
