hi everybody,
i got a little problem with my old 466Mhz laptop computer. I manged installing gentoo and everythins seems to work (pcmcia, sound network), but when i got to configuring i ran into trouble. I'm using the "siliconmotion" driver for my video card, but since my brother lost the laptop manual i don't know hsync and vsync of the screen (really, didn't find anything on the net). i put in some default values that looked good (...like hmmm have to look it up ), but it doesn't seem to work.
X comes up, but when i try to kill the server (Ctr-Alt_Backsp) or if it turns off the screen after a while i neither get a console nore the monitor doesn't turn back on.
nut the system isn't hanging, since i can press (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and it will do a reboot).
any suggestions or some frequ. that might work, would modelines be helpful (I don't really knwo what they do though .... ) _________________ never forget: god remains real until declared integer! |

I can give you mine (extract from /etc/X11/XF86Config):
Code: |
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "My Monitor"
HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5
VertRefresh 50-70
EndSection
|
This is for a 1024x768 display running in 16 bit mode on a Compaq Armada M700 (PIII-750) with an ATI Rage Mobility. Can you give any more detail on your screen (and resolution)?
Hope I could help! |
