every thing goes well until I get to | Code: | make dep && make clean vmlinux modules modules_install

and it dies when it gets to something about pcmcia
how do I disable the pcmcia when building my kernel?

| It's one of the options in 'make menuconfig.' I don't remember which one, but dig around a bit. |

Well I have tried ... a few times from zero ...
and I get errors when trying to build the kernel...
not even the only works
