Hello
When I run
foomatic-configure -s cups -p DeskJet_816C -c file:/dev/printers/0 -n DeskJet -d hpijs
I get
lpadmin: Unable to connect to server: Connection refused
Could not set up/change the queue "DeskJet"!
I use Gentoo 1.4 rc1
Tanks,

Moved from Installing Gentoo.

If you've finished the install guide, look somewhere else. But if you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. |

Check out this site...
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=hpijs
It will make a ppd file for you and then you can save it as needed and skip that step. I was having the same problem.
However, once I'm passed that I can't hit port 631. Suggestions? _________________ 1 0

Hehe, nevermind on the can't connect to port 631. Cups must have just taken a little time to startup and hookup to that port. I can see the admin page now. _________________ 1 0

I've been following the Gentoo printing guide, but I'm having a problem with the foomatic-configure command. Here's the output:
Code: | bigdog root # foomatic-configure -s cups -p Canon-S630 -c /dev/printers/0 -d bj8pa06n.upp -n s630
lpadmin: add-printer (set device) failed: client-error-not-possible
Could not set up/change the queue "s630"! |
I've tried changing the queue name, but I get the same error. It seems to me that there's a problem with the driver parameter, but I can't figure out what. I also tried using a generated driver from linuxprinting.org, but all that does is give me an error about not being able to find the driver.
Here's the relevant part of my dmesg output, if it helps:
Code: | parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: Printer, Canon S630
lp0: using parport0 (polling). |
I'm, of course, connecting to the parallel port. Any ideas? Thanks. |
