Has anyone used the SafePeer plugin for the Azureus bittorrent client? It basically creates a blacklist file or IPs which currently contains over 70k addresses.
Up until now, I've always used the standard client via the CLI. Does anyone know if there's a way to use a blacklist with the original client? Maybe through ip tables? |

| I've used it, can't really say if it makes any difference at all, it does block nearly every single law enforcement body in the US as well as a few other places, most of the IP ranges for the various industry bodies, but then I don't know how much risk you entail in the first place. |

Come on guys! Do you think that RIAA or MP-fucking-AA doesn't know about those "blacklists"?
It's totally worthless. |

Actually it can. You won't be able to surf on some websites that has something to do with FBI, RIAA, MPAA and such.
It's up to you if you want to use it, and feel more "secure"
By the way, isn't filesharing legal in Canada, or am I totally lost? |

Why wouldn't I be able to surf? Safepeer only affects Azureus, it's not an iptables firewall. I can surf wherever I want with Safepeer.
Filesharing *is* legal in Canada, but that doesn't stop certain America companies from sending emails to universities threatening legal action. |

| A few people/orginizations have done doing what the RIAA and MPAA does in the states, but they were flat-out shot down in the courts. Canada > US. |

The RIAA seems to be more concerned with filing suits against the unknowning and ignorant. There are so many out there that don't use blacklists and I'd bet the RIAA is just as happy breaking down their doors as anybody else's. Remember that they aren't doing this to for the $2000 of settlement money, they just want to make the news and instill fear in the public about using p2p.
Yeah, the blacklist is far from perfect, but it's better than nothing. |
