Burncenter is a perl frontend for mkisofs and cdrecord. Just answer a few questions after install and its rdy to go.
It is console based but brings up a nice txt menu with about 10 different choices for different burning methods. Quick and easy.
I dont think there's an ebuild for it but its a small program worth checkinig out. |

Try out gcombust? I prefer that since it is pretty straightforward.

If you guys haven't tried using the commandline you should give it a go, it's not hard to get the hang of the tools once you use them a few times. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

My rankings are:
1) K3b (integrates best into kde)
2) KreatCD (Seems there is only a kde2 version)
3) CDBakeoven
4) XCDRoast
5) SimpleCDRX
6) KonCD (only a kde2 version and the web site has not been updated in a long time). |

I have tried k3b and the only complaint I have is it will only burn at 4x on my 16x burner.
Going to try the others |

well, may be you are affraid to deal with the good-old command line, but I think that the cdrecord/cdrdao/mkisofs is the BEST combination, you can do ALL the things you want, and more; and you can write a LOT of bash scripts to control them the exact way you want.
and best of it all, they NEVER fail |

ok, let's go... (for data cds)
$ mkisofs -R -V [VolumeName] -o [iso_name] [/path_with_the_files_you_want_to_include]
then
$ cdrecord dev=0,0,0 (or your CDR SCSI device number) -v [iso_name]
that's it
if you want to read the cd on window$ 9x/NT, add the -J option to mkisofs |

Ok, here#s one for the completely gui-addicted:
I just burned a cd with 48x speed with nero using wine.
Works just like a charm right out of the box for me.
As nero came shipped with my new cdrw, I thought it was worth trying and I must say it was. Next thing I'll try is cdrwin. _________________ linux user 65882 |

I like gtoaster for a gui, but I mostly use cdrecord, cdrdao and mkisofs from the command line. I just make small batch files for each function that I use so I don't have to worry about settings, so cpcd will copy from reader to the burner cdb "iso.name" will burn an iso image same with cdrdao cdbbin "image.cue" will burn a bin/cue image it is easier than figuring out how a gui program works once you have set things up.
Also I have set up the gentoo file manger so it will burn a cd image by double clicking on the file name or creating a iso image by right clicking on a directory and choosing create iso.
Its easy and realiable once you have it set up.

I've tried a couple of cd burning progs and the only one that never disaopinted me is XCDRoast. Not a very intuitive interface but once you've learned it, you're happy forever. Never fails, the cds always play even in the cheapest, dumbest cd players. |

k3b is one of the nicest burning programs there is (on any platform) it even can self configure your system the way it needs to to work. (be sure check its settings if you use that feature)
yeah.. k3b there is no other.
(i like xcdroast too because of the options, and ability of it but its harder to use) |

I think the best for now is K3B. Good looking, support kde3 and very fonctionnal. Koncd and cdbakeoven are very good too. I use all of them. Xcdroast look euh... is not bad too. |

Talking about k3b, there's a new maintenance-release 7.1 available for quite some weeks, but it's still not included into the official portage tree.
Any ideas where to request that? |

therion12 try only running with make -j1 and toning down your CFLAGS.
I compile everything with -mcpu=athlon -O2 -pipe (dual XP 1400+) but then again I am conservative and want rock stability. |

Did you try adding "-fexceptions" to your CCFLAGS variable? |

I'm going to toss another vote in the direction of the command line. I wrote a little bash script to convert mp3's to wav's normalize them and burn them. i just type "mp3cd /Bunchatunes/*"
i'm working on scripts for Data CD's etc. Maybe I'll write them all and make an ebuild for a command line cd burning suite. |
