guys can you tell me why my pop3 server (courier-pop3) is not accepting my password?
Code: | tux mmont # telnet localhost 110
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.

+OK Hello there.
user mmont
+OK Password required.
pass ******
-ERR Login failed.
quit
+OK Better luck next time.
Connection closed by foreign host.

i can log in w/ that username just fine... it just will not accept any passwords... thanks |

You will probably need to change the configuration of your pop3 server to use an authentication module such as "authpwd" or shadow or PAM depending on which authentication mechanism your system uses. Look here http://www.courier-mta.org/install.html#authlib for more info. |

i was highly confused about .maildir's Maildir's /var/spool/mail directories, which mta i needed, blah blah blah... i finally realized by reading a LOT OF HOWTOS, that courier really liked .maildir's, so i removed all instances of mail delivery agents and such, looked up the use variable that would add the functionality, which was maildir, and emerged courier and courier-imap. by some insane lightning strike of luck, it seems to work.
