Ok, did an emerge rsync. Afterword, did an etc-update, and there were a ton of files that needed updating. I checked to see what the differences where and they apparently where putting the original install values back in (for instance, all of my drive mappings in fstab were suddently suppose to be /hda/BOOT and /hda/SWAP). So, I didn't accept any changes that would've resulted in moving back to the default install state.

I rebooted into Win2k to do some things from there, and when I rebooted back into Gentoo, here's some of what I got in the boot up text:

Code:

/sbin/depscan.sh:  find:  command not found
...
Initializing ALSA                              OK
-e ERROR:  alsactl not found!s46xx
ln:  creating symbolic link '/mnt/.init.d/started/bootmisc' to /etc/init.d/bootmisc':  No such file or directory
...
/sbin/rc-envupdate.sh:  id:  command not found
/sbin/rc-envupdate.sh:  [:  -ne:  unary operator expected
...
chgrp:  failed to get attributes of /var/fun/utmp
chgrp:  failed to get attributes of /var/log/wtmp
chmod:  failed to get attributes of /var/run/utmp
chmod:  failed to get attributes of /var/log/wtmp
...
/sbin/runscript.sh:  /var/lock/.keep:  No such file or directory
...
ln:  creating symbolic link '/mnt/.ini.d/started/checkfs' to /etc/init.d/checkfs:  No such file or directory
...
setfont/consolchars executable not found
...
error loading key mappins

After the initial '/sbin/depscan.sh: find: command not found', the boot sequence simply hung. Didn't do anything at all. I hit ctrl-C, and then the rest of the messages occurred (mistake to ctrl-C???? If so, why was boot haning there???).

Prior to the reboot going into Gentoo, my boot up sequence was squeaky clean! In addition to the above, there were a ton of creating symbolic links that I've never seen before.

Help please!!!!

I remember having done an emerge -up world and getting baselayout as needing updating. I updated that. Boot sequence died (who knows, maybe I managed to screw something up). So, I went back to the previous version of baselayout and everything's grand now :)
