In the instructions for the security fixes on gentoo forums it says to:
Code: |
emerge rsync
emerge application_with_security_bug
emerge clean
|
Wouldn't any new packages--including the security-bugged packages--be updated with:
Code: |
emerge rsync
emerge -u world
emerge clean
|
Or am I not understanding what 'emerge -u world' does? |

Only if application_with_security_bug is in the world profile (/var/cache/edb/world). _________________ Robert |

It only upgrades files in the world file.
If you emerge a program and other files are installed only the program you specifically asked to emerge gets put in the world file. Thus any libraries or dependencies that also get installed would not be updated in an emerge -u world. |

Ok, I understand now, thanks.
Any way to have any app you emerge be automagically put into the world file? It'd be nice to see if any installed app has an updated package. |

Any app you emerge explicitly does go into the world file. Things installed as dependencies don't.

That is emerge's --deep option. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
