|

Ijust emerged zinf, and it will only run if I log in as su at the command prompt and type zinf.
If I try to run zinf as my normal user, Sys Monitor says it's running, but Zinf never appears on screen.
Cheers,

ooh, thats a rather nasty bug...
can you try running zinf from a console as a normal user? (I assume your X session belongs to your user).
Try checking your sound device permissions, try adding yourself to the "audio" group. |

Interesting... I've not had any problems like this. What does ps -ef |grep zinf report before you try and start it as a user? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Running as a user from the console has the same problem.
The results of ps -ef|grep zinf are (while logged in as su):
Code: | root 9005 9003 0 12:21 pts/0 00:00:00 grep zinf |
and nothing while logged in as my normal user.
Cheers,

Sounds like you don't have users rights to /dev/dsp. Add yourself to the audio group. Zinf might be trying to open the audio device and hanging because of permissions and that is why it works as root. |

I added my user to the audio group, in /etc/groups, alas to no avail.
Any other ideas?
Thanks. |

Are you starting Zinf from a commandline? If not, does doing so produce any error messages? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
