|
|
Hi folks!
Until now I had gentoo up and running fine including alsa sound with KDE (had to turn off aRts to hear anything under xmms or KsCD). After re-compiling the Kernel with SCSI support I've got the message "Couldn't load module snd-es1938'.
Somehow it seems that alsa is no longer started, when I type /etc/init.d/alsasound I get following output:
* Initialising ALSA....
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
* Starting sound driver: snd-es1938 modprobe: Can't locate module snd-e [ ok ]
(Sorry, this is no typo - this is what I exactly get)
When I enter "lsmod" there is no module loaded. So I typed "modprobe snd-es1938" and get "Can't locate module snd-es1938" - what the heck did happen with the modules? Do I have to re-compile alsa again or is there a way to fix this quicker ?
I'm happy for any suggestions. Searching this forum dind't help because most people seem to have problems to get alsa running, bu i had it working before... _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? [ynq] (n) |

Whenever I've done a "make modules_install" in /usr/src/linux, I've had to re-emerge my nvidia and alsa drivers. Once you do that you should be okay. |

you have to re-emerge alsa (and nvidia for that matter), 'cause these packages build kernel-modules; so whenever you change your kernel, you have to rebuild these modules to fit to your new kernel |

Yep, recompiling alsa helps. Thank you guys for your quick response!
Do you think there is also a need for recompiling glide? I am using a ATI 3D rage pro and a Voodoo2 PCI. _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? [ynq] (n) |

I don't think so, as back when I used glide it contained no kernel-module; if it does, you have to
Otherwise, if you changed your optimization-settings prior to the kernel recompile, it may be a good idea to recompile everything..*g* |
