what video chipset/driver are you using? _________________ ...it must have been very demanding having to learn how to use Microsoft Office, right up there with other lofty challenges like learning how to zip your fly without getting your dick caught. |

Do you have a graphics driver with opengl support? How are your 'glxgears' speed? _________________ Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake running Gnome-2.14.1

The biggest problem with 3d games in linux at the moment is the complete lack of decent (read: fast) software opengl support. You will need to find out how to get hardware accelerated opengl working if you want more than a few fps.
Also, 64mb is not much ram in linux, chances are that kde or something else is taking up your memory. After shutting down everything that you don't need (incuding your desktop manager and X session), run "xinit /usr/games/bin/et" (from the console) to start up enemy territory in a dedicated X server, with no window manager.
Finally, enemy territory is much faster in 16 bit mode. If your server uses 24bit mode, copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf-16, and change the DefaultDepth option from 24 to 16 (it's in the Screen section). Then tell xinit to use that config file using "xinit /usr/games/bin/et -- -config xorg.conf-16". If using xfree86, use Xf86Config-4 instead of xorg.conf _________________ Registered Linux User #363420 |
