Linux.
Stallman is technically right, but it doesn't matter. People who understand what GNU is and what it represents know that a Linux system is built on GNU tools and libraries. People who don't know what GNU is don't really care what I call it (most recognize "Linux", though). It's Stallman's fault for picking such a rediculous naming scheme. I don't see the point in nitpicking; the philosophy is lost on most people.
On a somwhat related note, I say Windows or XP instead of Micorosoft Windows XP and I say OSX instead of Apple OSX.
And it would me nice to one day to see a GNU microkernel if they ever catch up to Linux. |

Linux by itself is much more streamlined. _________________ iMac G4 1GHz :: q6600 //2x 500GB//2GB RAM//8600GT//Gentoo :: MacBook Pro//2.53GHz |

I mean, i dont run a GNU-Linux-apache-xmms-openbox-X.org-GNOME system. |
that would go a little bit far, but LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP/Python) actually is a accepted name. |
Yes, but the idea behind the term LAMP is completely different.
LAMP: An ancronym to imply a web server than runs Linux with a database and a scripting language installed.
GNU/Linux: Adding GNU to the name because it uses GNU tools.
So all LAMP is doing is getting the message across with only a few letters, while GNU/Linux is trying to imply that the GNU project deserves credit too.
I hope I'm clear on what I'm trying to say. _________________ meow. |

| For me, I always call a distribution GNU/Linux. But I rarely use that term, simply because Unix is a much better term. I rarely want to refer to GNU/Linux systems alone, because *BSD isn't much different. OpenSolaris is supposedly similar too, though I haven't ever used it. |

Linux
because if you say 'Gnu/Linux' (who do you spell /?), You have to say 'BSD/Artistic/PD/GNU/LINUX' or even more correct 'BSD/MIT/X11/Artistic/PD/GPL-BUT-NOT-GNU/GNU/Linux' and of course 'OSL/BSD/MIT/X11/Artistic/PD/GPL-BUT-NOT-GNU/GNU/Linux'
Do you see the madness in the system?
Linux is enough... _________________

Linux. GNU/Linux is too hard to type.
On a related note, I call it eitherWindows or XP, not Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition. |

I am personlly for using Gnu/Linux due to the fact that the FSF has made many good contributions including gcc (my personal favorite) that almost all Gnu/Linux distros benefited from. _________________ http://geekwithcomputer.com/ A website about programming and electronics |

Are you a troll this forums has no place for trolls. M$ Windoze is irrelevant. What I am asking is a naming preference. Do people want to call it Gnu/Linux or Linux. _________________ http://geekwithcomputer.com/ A website about programming and electronics |

Meh. Linux.
Yeah, it's GNU/Linux, but at the same time, I don't mind getting laid every now and then. When I make it to 100, and my warranty runs out,I'll start being correct and calling it GNU/Linux. Or I might take up parachuting. Hard choices. |
