I don't know at all how to compile these drivers. I have a floppy of which i can't access
Code:
 mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount : fs type msdos not supported by kernel
and Drivers I can download but I can't connect to the internet. Im in the installation stage where i need to install/compile kde or gnome and i can't do that without a connection. It worked find when I did the installation off livecd but now I can't connect. I read that I needed to compile tulip drivers or something but I'm so clueless as of right now

Why can't you use the tulip drivers that are included with the normal kernel sources?

I went back and changed it to the tulip drives. did the make dep && make clean bzImage....then compiled the metalog and vcron thing again and then rebooted.... and still no response when "ifconfig" it just says the Local Loop thing again. Im so thoroughly confused

Any chance you forgot to mount /boot before copying your new kernel over?

ok I did it again this time mounting /boot. Still not reading card and when doing the checklist on boot it wants me to edit /etc/hostname to what it is suppose to be (of which I have no clue) the example is mymachine.mydomain.com but Im on a LAN... I have absolutly no idea what to do there. and im still getting the
Code:
*Please make sure that /etc/conf.d/net has $iface_eth1 set
*ERROR: Problem starting needed services
              "netmount" was not started

eth1 is refering to a second ethernet card I installed during the live cd installation for the network but it isn't connected directly to the internet. Now when I dö:
Code:
         # ifconfig
lo        Link encap: Local Loopback
          inet adr: 127.0.0.1 mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOBACK RUNNING.....
and some more stuff. I am using the tulip drivers as suggested.
