|
|
I'm a total newbie in the Linux world, so I might be asking stupid questions
I have two machines, one with XP and one with Gentoo 1.4_rc1. Now my goal is to switch entirely to the gentoo system, but i need to have a working mIRC client installed. Since this was a windows app, i emerged wine.
After having emerged wine as root, I logged in as my normal user, then typing "wine". Then it created my .wine/fake_windows directory plus some other things
Then I copied my mIRC directory from my XP machine and put it in fake_windows on the Gentoo system.
Then I open a terminal and enter the mIRC directory.
Typing "wine mirc.exe" results in this:
| Code: |
libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
|
A little headline box is drawn. (i suspect this to be the wine application), but mirc.exe is not running
i have edited the config file to point the c drive to fake_windows.
A pal of mine is running it perfectly, and he has done the same thing, only his is a 1.2 Gentoo system. Could this be a gcc3.2 compiler issue?!?
Hope any of you guys can help me out on this one.
I have searched the forums at winehq, but didn't find anything usefull.
Best Regards

why mIRC? ...try BitchX, XBitxhX, epic, or other linux IRC clients ...ther's thousands of them ...and they're all (some more some less) worth looking at _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

ups, sorry ...i forgot to mention: don't trust wine at every point - it's "emulating" wintendo, so be prepared to have similar problems _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

And those that really don't need all the features of IRC.
Like myself. |

I have gotten mIRC to run under wine, but I forget what version I was using. I did it to see if I could lol
I didn't do anything out of the ordinary to get it running, either. I used tkwineconfig to setup my .winex directory and stuff, then ran wine on the mIRC binary installer. It was a bit messy, though.. I would never recommend it, it's slow as all hell on a 1.8 Ghz system. |

I got mIRC running under wine though I don't know what version and I can't check atm because I'm far away from my gentoo box I'll check and let you know though.
And for those of you wondering why anyone would want mirc: It's just a good-looking GUI irc-client, and the scripting is real easy. Something I regret to say I haven't found for linux yet. atm I'm trying kvirc but that's not working very well either. And yes, I tried xchat, and no, I didn't like... |
