hehe well yes ;-)
that's really true...
There are only 2 more things in my opinion...
Portage needs some tweaks but that will be fixed almost completly with 2.0 I guess.

more download mirrors ;)
It suckes if you have 2mbit/s and you dload with 40k/sec at best all the time especially when emerging 20mb+ things like xfree, kde and so on

I'm also from Germany and I use the mirror in Norway (http://gentoo.linux.no) and I usually get the max. DSL rate (> 80k/sec).
I hope it will not change after this posting

Hehe, you should try using a 56K modem - welcome to life in the s - l - o - w lane

Still, it means I'm pretty certain of what I want to download before I go ahead and do it. Now, if I could just tap into the 5MB pipe at work...

And Gentoo is well worth the download time. It's slick, it's fast, it's simply the best thing to happen to Linux for a long time.

Only 500k/s?

I usually get somewhere around 1m/s down.

I only have a 512 kbps (I think my ISP's lying) line and I always get around 60K/s.

your ISP probably meant kiloBITS per second, not bytes. big difference. if unsure, give them a call to find out ;)

Usually, kbps is bits, kBps (or KBps) is bytes. Dunno where I heard this, but I believe it's true.

Bah, I just write "kilobit" or "KB/s" -- no one gets confused that way :)

What I meant was 60 KB/s (What my download manager shows), does not quite divide nicely into 512 kilobit/s (What my ISP says).

I want all my bandwidth! ;)
