Recommendations for AMD64 compatible wireless card

Hi All,

I'm just considering throwing a wireless card into my desktop machine, most likely just something PCI seeing as the all up cost is generally a little cheaper than PCMCIA + PCI adaptor card.

Can any of you please give me some recommendations for PCI wireless network cards that work well in Gentoo AMD64? I'm not too fussed as to whether it's an 802.11b card or an 802.11g card myself as I already have a couple of machines running Orinoco Silver 11b PCMCIA cards so everything would probably run at 11Mbps anyways. This is fine because it's only really for internet connection sharing and small data transfers.

Any suggestions much appreciated

Any prism based card really. Gotta be careful though as some prism's aren't supported.

For example - I need a 54mbs PCI wifi card.
At first glance, the SMC2802W fits the bill - it's advertised as a PrismGT chipset and the page over at www.prism54.org claims it works.
Delve deeper into the forums and google and I discovered that they have made a new v2 of the card which doesn't work.

There isn't an amd64 ebuild of prism54 available?

I currently have a complete useless USR wlan card with a TI chipset. It worked on x86 with ndiswrapper and binary drivers. I would now have to buy a new card which is supported by prism54...

I run a Linksys WCF12 with a PCMCIA -> CF adapter. My internal WiFi doesn't work in 64BIT, but the Linksys card runs just fine with the orinoco drivers.

I was ready to purchase that SMC2802W until I took a closer look as well. Looks like a lot of people made that mistake. I ended up just buying an ethernet bridge to save myself the hassle.

I can't belive there is no amd64/gentoo friendly wifi card... Maybe there are some 11mbps/b ones ?

I got a prism54 card (Netgear) and it works perfectly on my amd64 system.
The problem is that this cards are rare now...
Atheros chipsets must work well no? (it is ~amd64)

Thanks for infos. What do you think, would D-Link DWL-520 H/W Rev E (PRISM 3) Wireless 802.11b PCI Adapter run fine ? (i found one on online auction)

I read somehere that broadcom drivers work with ndiswrapper. There are even 64 bit drivers here: http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/drivers.php

If broadcom chipset is well supported by linux Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter - WMP54G should work fine then ? sorry if im asking too many dumb questions, im just trying to find good wifi card and its not so easy in Poland
