Are there any way to make my screen brighter the sofware way? Sortoff like the brightness functions in mplayer and other players. Becuse my screen is rather dark. And a little brightness wouldnt hurt.

xgamma -gamma X.XXX

X.XXX is a number of brightness. 1 is baseline. Keep in mind things will look washed out, and things that don't render through the X server (IE: Quake3 running DRI) will not honor the setting.
