Right now my box is called "gentoo" (hey, had to do it quickly! ). I'm think i'm naming it "Shoshone", after a crappy sci-fi TV movie (alien cargo). The ship's computer was named that way. |

Call me a loser, but I named mine after MK characters. haha
I had a domain with 'outworld' in it way back and so it felt natural to do so. :P |

Genesis (main server), Exodus (mom's laptop, her name starts with an e), Levi (as in Leviticus, dad's laptop, his name starts with an L), Psalms (my laptop, I'm a musical person), Revelation (firewall 'cause I thought it's be funny to name something that's supposed to hide something revelation...revealing no?)
Yes, I'm a Christian and thought it's be fun to try that kind of naming scheme. |

I think computers should be given female names (like ships). Most of us give them quite a lot of attention, too, which make the female name scheme even more fitting.
My main machine is called "Lal" (which means "love" in hindi) after Data's daughter (Star Trek Next Generation episode "The Offspring"). Love is the one thing Data is incapable of giving her.
My laptop is called Arisu (which is the japanese version of Alice) after a character in "Serial Experiments: Lain". I kind of fell in love with the name when I heard it and realized where it was from. The connection to wonderous adventures in wonderland seems fitting, as well as the fact that it is the name of a small girl (and a laptop is a small computer).
Another name I'm going to use someday is Elektra. I've always liked the name, and it does sound as if it had something to do with electricity (I think). _________________ ta' Hol DajatlhlaH'a' je? |

I named mine after the mascots of the main systems they're running:
Server: tux (Guess what OS )
Laptop: hexley (It's an iBook, running MacOS X)
But I like the idea of the female names... =)
Greets!

At home: uecht0
Not very imaginative, because I live in a place called Uecht... At least the numbering allows for more boxes
At work: numbered boxes, mine is 36815 - hey, there are too many to name each individually...
At the university we had servers called after storms: hurricane for the mail server, tornado for the file server etc. |
