My current naming scheme is norse mythology:
heimdall - router [gentoo] ("the watchman of the gods" )
odin - server [debian]
loki - notebook [gentoo]
thor - desktop [gentoo]
baldur - dvb/video-box [winXP]
Guess I have to watch out - I heard my notebook is bound to "kill" our dvb-box very soon and trigger "ragnarok" - the norse eqivalent to armaggeddon ... _________________ Life is too important to take seriously. |

the harddrive of my laptop crashes like each week, so I change distro on it quite often, but the the smartest name that machine ever had (when I ran Slackware 9.1) was slacktop _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

It is quite interesting to see that so many LinuXer picked those system names from the "hitchhiker".. It is my favourite book but i tried to find something else as a name.. so.. here it is:
Main system: helios
Laptop: icarus (because it's "flying" around.. )
BTW our university has a server named "SlartibartFAST".. *g*
Have a nice xmas.. |

I've done a Navy/Military theme.
Servers are Russian sub classes (NATO names)
Alpha, Akula, Oscar, Kilo, Typhoon, Tango...
Sniffers and Monitors are ASW gear
Orion, SeaKing
My workstations were Army Helo's
Blackhawk, Kiowa, Apache
Edge devices (Firewalls) were US Subs

I'm not sure how original this is.. I havnt had time to read other people's ideas... but i have always named my computers after chemical elements....
carbon..
helium..
argon...
and finally neon..
i once noticed a computer at my university named Neon and i thought that was a cool idea.. if anyone else has done the same i would be interested... |

Welp, this thread is so long and old I'm sure mine'll be lost, but I named my main workhorse:
tuxmachine.testlab.org and the others:
tuxmachine2.testlab.org
tuxmachine3.testlab.org
But I noticed my son named his after his girlfriend, Trisha. lol... He runs windows on that tho. I can't convert him! _________________ --You talk the talk, but do you waddle the waddle?
