I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good generic type cooling solution for a laptop specifically one like this one http://www.hypersonic-pc.com/EX7/index.asp I'm probably going to purchase the one in the link in a few months and Gentoo is on my high list for installation, but I do know that extended operation with laptops can affect the lifespan of the hardware so I want to get something to help keep the system cool during extended emerge operations [Like the initial installation for example.] besides I'm tired of getting burnt by my laptop when it is on my lap.  Any recommendations would be really appreciated.

well, just make sure that when you get it, it is wide enough
i have a 17in widescreen laptop and i get better temps off of cooling pads
this is because the rubber feet on the laptop are supposed to hold it off of the cooling pad, but since it is so wide they dont touch and temps are worse, my laptop has nice and tall rubber feet so i get best temps without any cooling pad at all

Wide enough that the surface of it holds the entire surface of the notebook, I guess.
