I had an idea earlier, what about a forum where people who wish to code on a project can meet up with others who wish to offer help?

For instance, if Mr X was making a cd writer project and he needed help because it was too much for one person he could start a thread saying "Help needed on CD writing project to be written in C++". People with a knowlege of C++ could then join and help either with code or just advice on the thread. With luck Mr Y and Mr Z would say, "this sounds really interesting, can i help with the api, i have some experience, i did this and that...etc"

There is a good reason why it shouldn't go in OTW, OTW moves too fast and it wouldn't get seen, also quite alot of the gentoo users dont go into OTW because its usually non-technical.

You know I meant it as a place for Gentoo's budding coders to help eachother out. I cant code so its not for me. Theres been lots of talk about a gtk cd writer and it would be good for 5 or so gentoo users to get together and make Gentoo-cd-burner or something. A professional place on the forums where it is possible for gentoo users to get together and propose apps and work toards them.

Personally i think it would be an excellent arm of the gentoo community, a non-gentoo-deveoper based applications forum. It may also help in testing some of the people who want to become gentoo devs. Or it could double as a beta testing forum.

Its not a bad idea, I just think the scope of the Gentoo Forums should be kept on target, and focus on what it does best.

I suppose the forums are best left to fixing problems and creating a community but I can imaging gentoo's reputation being greatly enhanced if some products were released under the Gentoo Foundation's name "Gentoo Foundation UDEV 2" or "Gentoo Foundation's K3bGTK suite" or something like that...
