I am fairly new to the SPARC platform so these may be obvious questions.
What is a good partitioning scheme for a server? I have this so far:
/ - 512Mb
SWAP - 512Mb
Whole Disk
/usr - 10Gb
/var - 4Gb
/home - the rest of the disk
The System Specs are:
2x 450MHz processors
2Gb of RAM
2x - 36.7Gb SCSI Seagate Cheetah's (ST336704LC)
DVD-Rom
External Sun DDS 4 Tape backup drive
My question is should i use the 2.4 smp kernel or another one? as far i can tell smp is for dual processor systems, correct? I would like to get going on this but would like these questions answered first. Also if you have any other pointers for me please let me know. TIA
Also if anyone can suggest hwo i can config the tape backup drive please let me know. _________________ www.EternalFireProof.com

I changed my partition scheme so tell me what is better please.
/dev/sda1 - / - 1.5Gb
/dev/sda2 - SWAP - 512Mb
/dev/sda3 - Whole Disk
/dev/sda4 - /usr - 5Gb
/dev/sda5 - /var - 15Gb
/dev/sda6 - /home - About 15Gb (the rest of the drive)
The system will be used as a webserver, ftp server, and eventually a mail server and maybe a fileserver for my LAN.
I figured the large /var because of webserver and large /home because of ftp. What do yall think? _________________ www.EternalFireProof.com

I decided to go ahead for now with the install and these are the USE flags i am using right now....im in the middle of bootstrapping and will redo it if need be.
USE="aalib apache2 crypt cups dga foomatic gd gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 imap imlib java jpeg libwww maildir mozilla mysql ncurses opengl pam perl png python readline ruby samba sasl spell ssl tcpd tiff truetype xml zlib"
Are there any that i missed or any that someone would reccommend? How will these affect bootstrapping? _________________ www.EternalFireProof.com
