I have a Lucent Winmodem (ugh, ugh, ugh!) on a ThinkPad T22. I have enclosed Portage's output of the error:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Still no solution on this. Would it help if I put /usr/src/linux back to linux-2.6.7?
