DOOM III is pretty much unplayable with an FX5200. I just bought one to put in a non-gamer machine (my dad's), and tried DOOM III on it, and I barely got 10 FPS at 640x480 low quality. Yeah, maybe if you turn off some advanced options it becomes playable, but IMHO it totally ruins DOOM III to disable one or more of those options.
OTOH, with an FX5600 instead, I can play at 800x600 medium detail, or 640x480 high detail, and get very nice framerates (about 40 FPS).
So, to be brief: DOOM III is very videocard-bound, and you need at least an FX5600 to have a pleasant experience. |

4.9 beta already installed but still crashing, most probably due to heat
I underclocked it and won a few minutes, but not much
I'll try to underclock even further, otherwise I will wait for winter |
btw it was the system ram
reduced the timings in bios and now everything is fine
the strange is that even compiling had not any problem |
