I went to install xine the other day, but while emerging, it exited unexpectedly and among the error messages I picked out the word 'alsasound' Does xine use alsa? If so, is there anohter media player out there like xine that does not use alsa? thanks. _________________ Matthew Hauck

It will use Alsa or OSS. Did you put a USE=-alsa in /etc/make.conf to tell it not to compile for Alsa? |

You don't have to compile xine again, you can use this options (found in the xine-faq, http://xine.sourceforge.net/index.php?resource=5.1&action=default):
Quote: |
5.4.1 Starting xine fails with complains about audio drivers/devices!
You can select the audio driver using the -A option. So try:
xine -A null
If you have ALSA drivers installed, try:
xine -A alsa09
If you run ESD, try:
xine -A esd
If you run artsd, try:
xine -A arts
|
xine remembers the selection you made, so you only have to type this once.
hope it helps
