Hi all,
Desperate here! I have a shining new AsusK8N-E Deluxe with AMD NewCastle 64 3200+ computer and none of the linux Livecd boot it (tried 2004.2-amd64, 2004.1-amd64, 2004.2-x86, knoppix). BUT windows 2k seems to boot.
It goes through the POST, then the cdrom drive blinks and then sit there, or try to boot from the next device. Nothing on screen (LCD) no logo, no boot prompt just plain nothing.
The CD and the harddisk are both master on the secondary and primary ide chains.
Thanks in advance

Have you tried burning the livecds on different cd-rw drives and/or computers? Sounds like the livecds are not being burned correctly. _________________ Gentoo...it's like wiping your ass with silk. Or sandpaper. |

Thanks for your replies,
The server did finally boot, but only off another cdrom device (borrowed one).
The CDs did boot one other machine (even non amd64, although not completely, which was expected). And I tried different burning scheme.
It seems that the IDE chain was not correctly terminated. The server did boot only once (half) off the original CDROM. But it booted off the spare one reliably.
Something is very strange here.

IDE chain termination? Isn't that only on SCSI? |

Yeah, only SCSI requires termination, not IDE. _________________ Gentoo...it's like wiping your ass with silk. Or sandpaper. |

Erm, I know that ide does net need terminaison, nevertheless it looks like that, as the original cdrom does not boot, unless there is a second cdrom on the same ide band. And of course the jumper where set correctly (hardisk master ide1, cdromorig master ide2, working cdrom slave ide2.)
Does anybody knows where it could come from?
