Hello,
When I sometimes want to see a movie I see a message that the Windows Media Player 9 decoder is not installed for Totem.
But can I install a 32 bit programm on a 64 bit system (multilib) ?

the short answer: yes
portage should sort that automagically and pull in the needed 32bit emulation libraries
having said that, though, totem is...imho, rubbish. Any luck getting it to play in VLC? _________________ Lost configuring your system?

Shouldn't ffmpeg do the yob? Haven't had wincodecs installed for ages, everything plays just fine. |

desktop profile should be multilib AFAIK
only if you specifically select "no-multilib" is it pure 64 _________________ Lost configuring your system?

correct
but scrap Totem, mostly useless - VLC is top notch, as is most everything *but* Totem far as I'm concerned. |

Totem depends on gstreamer to handle most of the decoding. So, ensure that all the necessary gstreamer packages are installed.
Disclaimer: I don't use gnome or totem or gstreamer, so I can't really tell you exactly which gstreamer packages you might be missing. You may as well install all of them. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

normally you can right-click on a file, Open With, and then when selecting the program should be a tick box that says 'always use this program' or similar. |
