Hello,

When I sometimes want to see a movie I see a message that the Windows Media Player 9 decoder is not installed for Totem.

But can I install a 32 bit programm on a 64 bit system (multilib) ?

the short answer: yes

portage should sort that automagically and pull in the needed 32bit emulation libraries

having said that, though, totem is...imho, rubbish. Any luck getting it to play in VLC?

desktop profile should be multilib AFAIK

only if you specifically select "no-multilib" is it pure 64

correct

but scrap Totem, mostly useless - VLC is top notch, as is most everything *but* Totem far as I'm concerned.

Totem depends on gstreamer to handle most of the decoding. So, ensure that all the necessary gstreamer packages are installed.

Disclaimer: I don't use gnome or totem or gstreamer, so I can't really tell you exactly which gstreamer packages you might be missing. You may as well install all of them.

normally you can right-click on a file, Open With, and then when selecting the program should be a tick box that says 'always use this program' or similar.
