It took me a while to track this one down but I finally found it on a SuSE mailling list archive. If you have a MP machine and are booting with bootx using the bootx installer and do not see two tuxes at the top of the screen. Make sure you're using OS 8.6 or lower on your Mac partition.
For some reason OS 9.1 disables cpu1 when booting to linux. I installed 8.6 and bingo, dual tuxes and a longer cpuinfo. Enjoy.
=System=
Mac 9500 / 200MP
OS 8.6
Gentoo 1.4
keywords - bootx dual processor smp multiprocessor enabled install _________________ "I'm tolerating you." |

Cole:
yep this is very true, the 9.x series tries to enable to processor from macOS (thereby locking it). Anything from 8.6 and back should be fine, and for some (rare) cases 9.x is ok.
