I've never made an ebuild
I'd like to learn by doing, I tried reading but it made my head spin
I think this one would be pretty easy
just download the install bin and run
if neccessary, link to usr/games/bin _________________ Could it be? |

It's a little more difficult than that. As I recall, the beta builds for Serious Sam had a built-in expiration date that has long since passed, and thus will not let you run the game. This was solved later on by some patches, but they were only available through the Loki Update tool. |

the way i installed it was to download 3 files
the installer and 2 patches
couldn't we get the ebuild to run those files in succession? _________________ Could it be? |

Actually, the last client for serious sam (first and second encounter) don't have expiration date, so there is no problem with that. |

Without patching via the loki update tool? Where did you find these clients? |

I'm still playing both now and again quite happily. Can't believe how good the graphics still look, considering the games are years old. Serious Sam 2 is going to blow everything else out of the water... _________________ All effort is useless. |

I'm going about creating an ebuild now. This is my first attempt at portage/ebuild development, so I'll let you know how it goes. |

Tip #1. unpack_makeself
Tip #2. check out some of the other loki_setup-based game ebuilds like ut2004 or doom3 to see how we do them _________________ Ex-Gentoo Developer
