What is going on? Response times for the forum are like ten seconds when starting to view a topic. Granted, once the page starts loading it comes throug in an instant. Searches don't work - search takes about 30 seconds and finally the request times out. Is something seriously wrong with the database backend or what? |

I am not experiencing any of the described problems. Are you sure that this is not due to some problem between you and the forum host? _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

I'm not using any proxy, my ISP is not using a transparent one (And I know this because I work for the said ISP), ping is stable 220 ms (from Europe, reasonably good value to US), traceroute gives 25 hops...
If I try to search with author name, it works. If I try to search with words (just something like 'kde') I get a timeout.
EDIT: Author search does not work either - at least completely, I just typoed pilla's name and got a really quick response "no posts found". However, typed correctly results in a timeout.

i can confirm this.
During random times i have very long answer times for the forums (60+ seconds), i don't found any pattern when this happens.
It's seems not to be network related, tracroutes show normal times, DNS is working fine too
Lasst occurance e.g. 5 minutes before this post.
Normally i have very good answer times, but since about ~1 week this happens more and more often _________________ Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself |

I can confirm this as well. Only when I want to post something, the gentoo forums are really slow today...
Everything else works fine for me (e.g. downloading livecd-2004 iso in 4 minutes _________________ "I'm an angel bored like hell

I can confirm it also. The forums are responding really slow and regularly timing out. |

I'll confirm this too with the forum posts being slow. Also the forums were not accessible a lot of the time over the weekend and when they were it was slow.

I've noticed some slowness in the last days, too. Seems all the people with problems are located somewhere in Europe? |

I get this problem with two different ISPs. The traceroute I've just done looks like this:

did some more tests
- it seems not to be dependant on the ISP i use (two german)
- it happens (today) VERY frequently, maybe a relation due to MyDom outbreak today, but the issue is there since at least a week
- normal response time is ~185ms from my main provider, slightly more from the second one, both constant values
when it happens
- response time is still the same
- tcptraceroute forums.gentoo.org 80 works fine
- wget https://forums.gentoo.org/index.php times out

I've noticed the forum seems to be a bit flaky for me during the past week or so. Sometimes it is completely unaccessible, this is both at home and from work (UK). |

Unfortunately I experience the same problems... more exactly, when the latest GLSA got to my mail and I was going to post it to the forum, it stopped responding Is the gentoo mail server running in the same server as the forum does? Perhaps router priorities?
The www.gentoo.org and bugs.gentoo.org run flawless though |

Slower than molassis here too. Not always, but the last couple of weeks have been.... well, slow. Every other random page on the net open in a split second. |

I can confirm the sporadic slow down to outright unresponsiveness of the Gentoo forums over the past few weeks. I've been connecting from various computers in New Jersey. Occasionally, www.gentoo.org and packages.gentoo.org will get bogged down as well.
Of course, the chance of hitting a Gentoo forums logjam seems to be directly proportional to my need to search for a solution to a problem. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

Only to add another yes, it is slow as hell post.
I am lucky because my main browsing time is between 0800 and 0800 (GMT) and it is 90% ok then, but any other time of the day or night it is pot luck as to wether I can access the pages or not.
The really annoying thing is that even if it times out it manages to count your trying to access it as a visit. So when I do manage to access it (usually some hours later) I click posts since last visit I miss most of them. Very annoying |

I can conform this too. For the past couple weeks the forums have sporadically been slow, occasionally flat out inaccessible due to timeouts for several minutes at a time. Hasn't happend today yet but usually is several times per day. Meanwhile I have no trouble at all accessing www.gentoo.org even when forums.gentoo.org timing out is so I don't think the problem is on my end. |

I noticed the slow post time, too. I thought it was the router flipping out on me.
This has been happening the past couple of weeks, although it seems to be getting a bit better the last couple of days. _________________ Clue-less |

I too have been experienceing slowness and the inability to access anything on the forums site at times. This has been happening the last couple of weeks. When it happens, I can get everywhere else on the net just fine, including the main gentoo home page. |

Forums are still slow, getting pages to load at all has been hit-or-miss for the past few minutes and a few other times this morning. And I'm browsing from a different location using a different isp than normal. |

We have some new hardware coming on line in the next two weeks which should help (if not totally alleviate) the speed issues. If that doesn't help, we may look into archiving/pruning older posts as well.
