Hello... I know that ATI's drivers are somewhat, ahem, legendary in the stability department, but here goes anyway. My new laptop has an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 (M7), and I've got X configured beautifully. GL programs work like a charm, and the radeon driver is typically wonderful.
The other day, I stuck Quake 3 on the thing to see how it would work. I was quite pleased to find that it seemed to work quite well, even with ALSA sound (my old laptop had Issues with Quake 3 + ALSA). So I jumped into Single Player mode to try out the actual gameplay, and about five seconds in (during which time I had wonderful framerates), it just froze. The keyboard/mouse were completely nonresponsive, the visual just showed the last frame it drew, and the sound was looping over and over across the last second or so of audio.
This problem is entirely reproducible. Has anyone else encountered this? And if so, did you find a fix for it?
Thanks! |

| The drivers for the 7500 were made by the dri team, since ATI doesn't do linux yet except the 8500. Try turning off that alsa driver since to date I've had nothing but problems with it in relation to games as well. I use a Radeon 64 aka 7200. |
