i'm trying to debug the new source drivers for the wireless lan ralink rt2500 chip.
the makefile used -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 but the compiler wanted at least a value between 4 and 12 which might have something to do with the 64 bit cpu. so i set this to 4 and this step compiled. is this the right way?

but now i get another problem:
Code:
rtmp_data.c:3531: error: unrecognizable insn:
(insn:HI 131 130 132 0 0x2a992ca660 (set (reg:SI 77)
        (plus:SI (mult:SI (reg:SI 77)
                (const_int 8 [0x8]))
            (const_int 6 [0x6]))) -1 (insn_list 130 (nil))
    (nil))
rtmp_data.c:3531: internal compiler error: in extract_insn, at recog.c:2175
this is caused by many files needed by the makefile. what is insn?

Hi,

i've submitted an ebuild to https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58483.
The new 1.4.1.0 drivers seem to compile fine under 32bit. Maybe you want to work with that ebuild and include your changes for amd64 machines...

Greets,
DD

tested your ebuild rt2500-1.4.2.0.ebuild. here's the result:

Hi there,
i think the driver wont work on a 64bit architecture yet, as the pointers are casted into 32bit ints.
The 1.4.0 seemed to work on an amd64, as someone posted here:
http://61.222.76.235/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=54

So i will attach a 1.4.0 ebuild in a sec. But the smp-problem and/or performance problems are still there...

ok, finally i tried your rt2500-1.4.0.0.ebuild but the result was about the same. looks like the vanilla sources won't work and need to be hacked a bit. ;)

Hm,
sorry for that.
Do you have the same results as before?
Did you try to disable SMP, as so, i me mentioned in the ralink forum?

I think the ralink guys are working on the driver. The new release of the windows driver was great, and i think they want a good linux driver, too.
I will try to be up to dates with the ebuilds, so stay tuned ;)

And you could also read in the ralink forums, but there aren't really good solutions there, too.

Greets,
DD

1) i didn't compare the output, but i'm shure the reason is the same.

2) if i disable smp my system would freak out. this happened with many live cds i tried with this notebook. this might have something to do with acpi not correctly assigning the interrupt for my ethernet controller as discussed here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=183663

3) i'll try to hack around with these 32 bit casts.

Would be nice if you post your news.

And if you have the driver working, we could apply your changes in a new ebuild...

P.S.: I just wrote you by icq

Any luck with these drivers on amd64 lately? I'm going to uni now and I was wondering if somebody could give me some hints on how to get this card up and running. I've tried fixing the compile errors, but I haven't succeded in modprobing the module without a big fat kernel oops.

well storing 64 bit pointer addresses in 32 bit integers is usually the reason for this.

at the moment i'm waiting for getting my notebook back from service. after that i can continue working on it.

sincerly

I have bought myself a Fujitsu-Siemens Laptop with an integrated WLan card. lspci told me, that it is a RaLink 2500 card. I tried to compile the driver on my own but i am somehow stuck with it.
I was able to compile the module and I could do the insmod but then i have no ra0 device as written in the readme...
Do you thik you will get the ebuild to work? I'd relly like that ;)

looks good, but doesn't work for me...

i have patched the mentioned files but when I try to insmod the module i get:
Code:
insmod: error inserting 'rt2500.ko': -1 File exists

well the situation has improved a little
now the compilation works (if you knew how i did this you would like to strangle me ;) ) and the module loads.

Now I have a ra0 device but iwconfig says
Code:
ra0       no wireless extensions.

what now?

[edit] argh, how stupid can I be?? if i don't compile wlan support to the kernel i can't work ;)
Code:
# iwconfig ra0
ra0       RT2500 Wireless  ESSID:"AP350"
          Mode:Auto  Frequency=1 MHz  Bit Rate=11 Mb/s
          RTS thr=2312 B   Fragment thr=2312 B
          Encryption key:off
          Link Quality:0  Signal level:0  Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

Could you elaborate on this? I'm trying to get my Asus WiFi-g card (RT2560F chipset) going, but so far without success.

I promise not to strangle you...

I downloaded the package, unpacked it, made the changes mentioned by hand, repacked it, got the ebuild, put it to net-wireless/rt2500, created a new digest, put the patched sourcecode to /usr/portage/distfiles and emerged it

Well, I am now getting an error about missing firmware
Code:
* Looks like there was a problem loading the firmware for ra0
* Failed to configure wireless for ra0

I am using baselayout-1.11.1 and configured the card using the wireless faq this board.
Does anyone know what I have to do now??

Had anyone success with Drv1.4.3.0 on amd64?
Code:
mayly@ospranzn ~/lager/RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.3.0/STA/Module $ make config

especially this "cc1: error: CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set " message is new.

ok, i forgot to take the right makefile before making.
finally i set up the rt2500.ko, modprobed it and ran RaConfig2500.

RaConfig2500 detected my card and showed the link status. so i set up a profile and wanted to activate it. but if i click "activate" the system freezes and i can only turn it off by resetting (hate it).

whats going on here? any ideas? i don't want to give up.

Not a very good AMD64 Linux notebook :-).. I had many problems finding the right Distro.

I really would like to use this MSI Wlan card. Did you any luck with the RT2500 drivers?

i think the hardware isn't very bad althought it's much work to get these fucking worst-quality drivers from the manufacturers running. i tried fedora core as temporary solution - only one day. after that i set up a 64b gentoo system and i'm very satisfied with it.

the wireless lan chip http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_rt2500 loads after patching the driver source but i can't activate the device without crashing the system. i would need to disable smp but without this option my ethernet controller won't work. so i have too decide only to use ethernet or wireless lan.

did you get the sd/mmc/ms reader working?

i tried agpgart and amd64 drivers in gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r4 but no 3d Accel.

Fedora Core is Terrible!!! forget it :-) .. It was very slow. Meanwhile I did a BIOS upgrade, and tried Fedora again, same problem.. (more info about the ARIMA laptops http://www.ckloiber.com/ and http://www.rmecc.com/~v2/em/index.html

I have to mention, I very new to linux, so I don't know a lot about it. I did a stage1 bootstrap, but used Genkernel to compile the kernel, but the laptop is not bad, you are right.

I did not yet try to build a driver for the RT2500, I was hoping to find a ebuild soon, but I guess that will still take a while.. So I think I have to give it a try

When I use a CF card I see the following info via dmesg
Code:
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using address 4
scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: GENERIC   Model: USB Storage-CFC   Rev: 010D
Type:   Direct-Access                      ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Nothing more nothing less, I cannot mount it. maybe I have to probe a modules!? but I have no idea which one

When I use the TARGA memorystick I have no problems. and I use a External USB 2.0 drive, that works perfect!

Don't you have the Via-RhineII ethernet controller? I compiled it as a module and load it via /etc/autoload.modules.d/kernel2.6 as "via-rhine" I don use SMP (should I?) If I compile it into the kernel, the laptop doesn boot

ATI working great rt2500 without smb working too

ice i have a targa visionary 811A 3000+ amd 64 :)

And i am pacient waiting for ati and a stable rt2500 drivers :) .

i have sucessfully load rt2500, but after a while with Raconfig my kernel crashes ... so i decided to wait :)

Take it easy, i believe rt2500 will soon release a cool driver for amd64. i am much worry about ati, they always promiss big in drivers, but they always have the worst ones!

Maybe in 30 february Ati realease amd64 drivers!!!
