Hi,
I am trying to install gentoo 1.4 stage3 onto my old powerbase....
the problem I am running into is that gentoo cannot load the epic100 module for my ethernet card (smc etherpower II) because the card itself is entangled in a resource conflict with something else on the pci sys....

I've got an adaptec uw scsi adapter, and it is loading correctly, and I've tried moving the eth-card to one of the other available slots.... but no luck...

I've been looking for information on dip switch settings on the card but have not come across any info as yet.... can anyone here help?

-thanks

ps. did anyone else order a 1.2 ppc cd from tux and get a cd labeled 1.2 with only a 1.1a tar ball actually on the cd?

really? hmmmm....but gentoo DOES try to load the correct driver for it during pci detection ([!!] ) .
I realized there was a pci conflict by reading dmesg... but you are telling me that even w/o the resource conflict that my nic card will not work?

-thanks.

Right.. the module is not included on the ISO. I didn't know there were any functional cards based on this driver in fact.

not possible to easily alter the ISO no... but you should be able to have someone else running the ppc-sources-r6 kernel build the module for you and use insmod to load it. just wget it to your box and load as needed (or place on a filesysetm thats already there and mount it).l. that sort of thing

gerk,
thank you for compliling that module for me.
Unfortunately, it did not work because my real problem is that there something amis on my pci bus (cannot allocate resouce region 1...). For some strange reason it is really really hard to find information about irq conflicts on machintoshes (sarcasm  ). I am really at a loss at what i should do.... I've also tried a 3com card (cyclone ~ I think)....no luck for my poor old powerbase :( .

Hmmm

IIRC Powerbase only has a single Bus Mastering (pci 2.1) slot. The one nearest power (?? been a while sorry).

You might wanna try reshuffling cards so that the Adaptec and/or NIC lands there and try again. That or pull the NIC and try with just the built on eth and the Adaptec
