As I mentioned in my last post regarding 3d acceleration, I have an ultra 5 with an ATI radeon installed into a free PCI slot. This card is not being initialized by the BIOS so it's possible that that is the problem, but I was wondering if anyones had any success with this. I was trying to get a fast user switching thing going on the system I decided to go with gdm and gdmflexiserver. I got gdm working using pretty much the default configuration. I tried running gdmflexiserver and the system completly locked up. I couldn't even get a stop>a to work. I did some reading and decided that I needed to edit the gdm.conf and activate another display server. I believe the syntax was:
server=0
server=1
This caused gdm to lock up at startup. As a test, I tried disabling gdm and running the startx script. Once I had that display working, I ran startx -- :1. This also locked the system. It seems to me, that the problem seems to be xorg starting another display. Has anyone tried doing this with the built in video card on a similiar configuration? If not, could someone give it a shot? I'm not sure if it's because of the strange video card setup I have or if it's a problem with xorg. |
