Got a strange problem. Did some searching but didn't have any luck. The problem is that any domain name that doesn't exist or doesn't resolve for me bounces back to me.
So, If I type in: traceroute doesntexist.com it will take 1 hope and be my own IP address/domain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
I can post any/all my setup files if needed.
TIA,
Dallace
Edit/Update: I just installed bind-tools and did an nslookup for the same unresolvable domain and it can't find it, so it seems to be limited to traceroute. |

As far as I understand, this is normal. If you run traceroute to a host that does exist, the first stop should also be your ip address. If the host doesn't exist then traceroute will get no further than than your own ip address because there is no route to the non-existant host. In either case it isn't really "bouncing back" to you, it's just starting with you, and working it's way from there. |

Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked was that a friend of mine that uses Gentoo also, his doesn't act the same way. He just get's an "unresolved host" error message when using traceroute in the same manor.
