Here's the situation:
I have a server that I just took down, and it's much faster than my current hardware so I was thinking about just using it as my desktop machine (replacing the current Athlon 2100 XP, 512 PC2100). Its specs are:
Tyan Thunder K7 Mobo
Dual Athlon 2600 MP
1.5gig PC2100 ECC
AGP 4x
Would I be better off getting all new stuff so that I can have an 800MHz FSB and an 8x AGP that can keep up with the Nvidia FX5900XT I'm about to buy? Maybe a P4 2.8 w/HT and some PC3200? I just don't have the money to keep this server co-located anywhere anymore so I'll use it if I won't be wasting a good video card in it...keeping Doom 3 in mind. Thanks in advance for any help!

| Well no game requires the amount of bandwidth that 8x provides, and I'm doubting Doom 3 will. There is really no difference in performance between 4x and 8x AGP in terms of benefits right now. Your limited by options for memory as the 2600 is only 266FSB, well it's up to you really. |

I guess I'll give it a shot and see how well it performs. I just don't know if the slow FSB will be restricting how well the vid card will perform.
