ok i have a kind of technical question regarding how samba handles network traffic. if I have 3 systems on my internal network all running samba, (system1, system2, system3) if system1 has //system2/share mounted as smbfs at /bigshare/sys2 for example and system 3 has //system1/bigshare mounted as smbfs at /netshare when I access a file that is in /netshare/sys2 does the traffic go through system1? or directly from 2 to 3?

I don't know off the top of my head, but I'd run tcpdump on box 1 and 2 and then access the share from box 3. tcpdump should display how the traffic is flowing.

samba is not intelligent about network connections, so the file acces will pass through all the levels ... There *are* some MS extenstions to this, but i doubt that samba did catch them allready ...
