So, I started an "emerge -u world" without making sure that there was ample space to run. It ran out of space. When I cleaned up, emerge was broken. I get this:
Code:
houdini@w213a houdini $ emerge -p -u world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order.

Calculating world dependencies /portage: aux_get(): error processing DEPEND for media-libs/aalib-1.4_rc4-r2; exiting.

I've tried doing an rsync, and it doesn't help. What can I do?

Is there anything in /var/tmp/portage/aalib-1.4_rc4-r2/work/ ?

Man I wish I had read that earlier...

I decided to blow away /var/tmp/portage. After all, it IS in /var.

Well, that wasn't a good idea. I could run emerge again, but then it thought I had to install almost everything on the system again (oddly enough, not everything). I did some awk magic on the output of emerge -up world, and injected all those packages.

Is there any chance that I didn't just totally break my system? :)

This is not making any sense to me. You can safely delete everything under /var/tmp/portage at any time. It's /var/db and /var/cache/edb that you should leave alone.

Well, as I said, the system wanted me to install 3 terminal's worth of software when I next did emerge -pu world. Not upgrade, install (N). I injected it all, and it seems to run ok.

I've been wanting to start over with 1.4 anyway...
