Hi,

I installed wine-20050211with the instructions from this forum and it works. But now I have tried to install IE6 with no luck. I have tried winetools-script and sidenet-script, successless. But I think that is possible in general, so can someone give me a hint for this kind of installation?

Thanks in advance

I used winetools from http://www.frankscorner.org/ with wine-20050310 and have successfully managed to get IE6 installed and running. I need to remove the Xdialog that came with winetools and emerge it by itself, but other than that it was no trouble.

HTH,
Andrew[/i]

No way. I updated wine to the latest installation. After that I removed the Xdialog from the winetools and emerged the xdialog.
Then I started the winetools and created a basic configuration. Then I have tried to install the Internet Explorer, but I get the following error:
Code:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="" wine ./ie6setup.exe
waiting for wineservers to exit...
err:module:import_dll Library ole32.dll (which is needed by L"T:\\IXP004.TMP\\ie6wzd.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"T:\\IXP004.TMP\\ie6wzd.exe" failed, status c0000135
all wineservers endet after 4 seconds...

Do I need to install dcom98? But doesn't work too. It seems that the ole32.dll can not be found. How can I fix it?

I just do it, but I have to check my webdesign by more than one browser. And additional nobody can ignore at least 90% of users with IE in the internet.

Is using VmWare out of the question? If you are seriously developing for multiplatform browsers it shouldn't pose big problem to shell out for this tool (I know I did)

VmWare is not necessary, because I have 3 computers aorund me with different OS'. But I want just give it a try to get the IE running on my linux notebook. So I am more flexible. And if other users get it working, I don't need to buy VmWare I thought.

It was meant as a suggestion. Good luck with wine though

I've tried it again, but I get an error "missing ole32.dll". How did you solved this error?
I've tried to copy a native ole32.dll to my wine directory, but then I get an error again like above. So how do I solve this problem? It seems not to be an IE related problem.

Any suggestions?

Hummm, I didn't get that error message. Did you allow wine tools to build your wine drive_c and config for you? Then install DCOM, then IE?

I cannot install dcom98. It breaks with an error too.
Code:
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function advpack.dll.DelNodeRunDLL32 called in 32-bit code

With which options do you have emerged wine? I used:
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" USE="-arts -doc" emerge -av --oneshot wine

I run the 2005.0 profile. My CFLAGS, USE flags and the wine
Code:

CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -O2 -pipe"
USE="amd64 X acpi alsa apache2 avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dba doc dvd encode esd fam flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gd gif gpm gstreamer imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jp2 jpeg junit kde libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad motif mp3 mysql mythtv ncurses nls ntpl nvidia oggvorbis opengl oss pam perl png python qt readline samba sdl ssl tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales v4l2 xml2 xpm xrandr xv xvid zlib linguas_en_GB"

Code:

[ebuild   R   ] app-emulation/wine-20050310  +X +alsa -arts +cups -debug +doc +gif -glut -jack +jpeg -lcms -nas +ncurses +opengl +oss 0 kB

I wish I could make some more suggestions, but it just works for me so I don't know what I did.

So, i tested it on a 32-bit computer, too. There I get the same error, so I am a little bit confused.
It is possible that this can be an error throwed by the kernel? On both computers I use the same kernel, but different gcc-versions.
I will give it a try and change to gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11, in the moment i use gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r7

Just to say: You're not alone! :(

Have exactly the same error (on x86):

Code:

regedit: Can't export. Registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall' does not exist!

I have this with wine20050419 and with wine20050310-r1. I have this *not* using wine20050310! I don't know, what was the difference between r1 and the original release.
