I'm not sure about your Gnome problem, but in regards to getting access to your XF86Config file, you should be able to get access to it from the console.
Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 (Or any function key from 1 to 6).
That should bring you to a standard console login. Login and you can cd in the directory that contains the XF86Config and use nano or vi or something to edit it.
Eh, to make it stop going into Gnome, I'm not sure how it's setup, but check your .Xsession file or .xinitrc or something like that. Or, if you use gdm, check the gdm settings and turn off the automatic login thing if you're using it. The gdm config file should be /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf In addition, have you tried choosing the session while logging in with gdm? It should give you that option. Choose the default XSession or something. _________________ rcxAsh |

| depending on your setup, it might be that you're in run level 4. If that is the case, you could change your inittab to default to run level 3 |
